Georges LEMMEN  vs  Paul DU BOIS

We're delighted to present a selection of works by two very close friends at the center of the Belgian avant-garde, Georges LEMMEN (1865-1916) and Paul DU BOIS (1859-1938). Based in their respective memberships of the Groupe des XX, this friendship reflects itself in the way their art naturally gravitated towards each other. Although active in different media, both Lemmen and Du Bois slowly turned towards a decorative conception of thier art. We find the works presented here of particular interest, with several works dating from Lemmen's earliest period gaining ground with the avant-garde, as well as a wide variety of Du Bois' sculptural production. Eventually, these close friends founded an Atelier Libre, or Open Studio, together in 1892. Teaching painting, drawing and sculpture, side by side, to a young generation of students from all genders and backgrounds.
