Modelled on the shape of a traditional Chinese Meiping vase and decorated with a Japonist rendition of algae, the present vase needs to be seen in the context of the sort of experimentations Finch devoted himself to when he first moved to Forges at the end of 1895. With their typical dark brown glazes and light green engobes, these are amongst the best documented ceramics by Finch.
