Discussing two decorative plates with similar decorations, both dated 1896 and located at Forges, Danielle Derrey-Capon states that they are: "perfect examples of the sort of research Willy Finch devotes himself to upon his arrival in Forges-Lez-Chimay at the end of 1895 and the beginning of 1896." They are amongst the best documented ceramics by Finch, as we can effectively speak of a series which was on several occasion dated and located. The reflective surface of the green engobe designs contrasts nicely with the textured brown glaze, which was applied with remarkable consistency around the piece. While the bottom is decorated with a four-leaf clover, the outside rim is dominated by a beautiful arabesque of sinuous lines.
