On account of the exquisite glistering glaze, this vase can be grouped with the very last of Finch's experiments on Belgian soil. Like the present object, these works also tend to be heavily inspired by the Japanese line and aesthetics. Very special because of the spontaneous way in which the dark brown glaze was applied, and because of the striking engobe decorations, we are witnessing an artist in search of a new language. It is interesting to note that the experimental way in which the glaze was applied is in stark contrast to the quality of both, said glaze, and the level of perfection achieved in the initial throwing of the pot. The same model, decorated in the same manner but with a different design, is held in the collections of the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels.
